For people who have been hurt by Christianity ~ to heal.
This site is for you.
Whatever your story, whoever you are, Jesus never meant to hurt or condemn you. One of my favorite bumper stickers says, “Jesus, save me from your followers.”
How perfect. It conveys the good and true idea that Jesus was and is a refuge for people, but it can be hard to experience that or believe that when so many Christians repeat ideas that stimulate shame or fear instead of hope and trust.
My goal with the posts in this category is to help you reconcile your relationship with the Christian tradition, not necessarily to become Christian. I’ve worked with many people who have healed their past with Christianity and have become free to move on to practice another form of faith. Or they have become comfortable saying they are agnostic, or even atheist.
Others have shifted and expanded their ideas of who God is and what “religion” is, until they became comfortable with the idea of being Christian or of following The Way of Jesus. (Sometimes the different label allows the experience to be more transformed.)
Posts in this category will include a lot of “deconstruction” of meaning. In these posts, I try to undo some of the damage that has been done by particular theologies, or particular ways of reading the bible. I hope to help you to be free of the pain that was inflicted on you in the past.
I will also provide some “reconstruction” of meaning, with different and more positive interpretation of biblical texts, for example, or alternative theological interpretations.
What I really wish for you is that you will be able to believe that you are precious, and that God loves you, simply because you are you, a human being, created in the image of God.
